Police charged a Huntington man Friday with duping a dozen sick and elderly Long Island residents out of $10 million.
Nassau police arrested 49-year-old Peter Dawson after he allegedly scammed several people out of their life savings. Victims allege Dawson befriended them at East Meadow Methodist Church and convinced them to invest with him. They say Dawson told them he would care take of them financially, but instead used the money on his staff and himself. One person, who says she had invested with Dawson since 1990, lost $300,000 to his purported exploits.
Although Dawson is currently charged with scamming 12 people out of $10 million, police claim his client list totals 200 individuals and the number could climb to more than $50 million.
