A
Huntington charity has been bringing Christmas gifts to Long Island
children for over 25 years, but this year it needs help of its own.
The
Toys of Hope cargo van was recently totaled in a crash, and there are still
thousands of presents that need to be delivered before Christmas.
Melissa
Doktofsky founded Toys of Hope 27 years ago and say they are using a borrowed
SUV.
There
are approximately 50,000 children who still need presents and the deliveries
barely fit in the smaller vehicle
"I
don't want children to not have Christmas," Doktofsky says. "I just
can't even imagine. There's kids that looks forward to our truck pulling up.
And they're not going to see our truck pull up."
Toys
of Hope also brings warm clothing, food, hygiene products and pet supplies.
They work 365 days a year.
The
charity is asking Long Islanders to chip in whatever they can to help buy a new
delivery van. They say any size donation will help.
Anyone
who wants to donate for Toys of Hope's new van can do so on their
GoFundMe
page.
