The Town of Huntington is about to make a change when it comes to recycling.
The town is planning on raising the awareness of residents who throw out electronics with their regular trash. As of Jan. 1, Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone says residents who forget to recycle their electronics will receive stickers on their items that include ways to get rid of the waste.
Those methods include dropping it off at a recycling center, calling for curbside pickup or taking it to a store that will recycle it.
The campaign is part of a new state law designed to combat skyrocketing e-waste.
Another change in place for Jan. 1 includes single-stream recycling. In the past, cardboard and paper were picked up one week and cans and bottles collected the next. In the new year, every week is a recycling week in Huntington, all in the same bin.
