Hundreds of people gathered in Hauppauge Sunday to remember murdered loved ones.
Relatives gathered around stone pillars with the inscription of 200 victims' names. Organizers said while their loved ones will not be the last people to die violent deaths, the ceremony ensures they will never be forgotten.
Elizabeth Gottlieb was among the participants. Her husband was murdered nearly three years ago just minutes from their Garden City home.
"I drive by that place all the time . . . I can't drive past without thinking about it," Gottlieb said.
The parents of 18-year-old Thomas Herzberg, who was fatally shot during a car chase, recently saw their son's killer convicted. They were too distraught to speak to News 12 Long Island.
The organization Parents and Other Survivors of Murdered Victims, which has been helping families deal with the aftermath of violent crimes for ten years, organized the event.
