Even though there would be no Triple Crown winner this year, there was no shortage of excitement for horse racing fans at the Belmont Stakes in Elmont Saturday.
The stands were packed with horse racing enthusiasts who came to take in all the races. Many were hoping to cash in on a big win. For the McCarthy family of Roslyn, coming to the Belmont Stakes every year is a family tradition.
The Belmont Stakes is also referred to as the ?Run for the Carnations? because of the blanket of white carnations that are draped on the winner?s neck. The race is 1.5 miles in length making it the longest of the Triple Crown races. Jazil came roaring around the final turn and cruised to victory.
