Suffolk police arrested a homeless man Monday and accused him of stealing from a church poor box in Deer Park.
Police say 37-year-old Daniel LaValle robbed the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church at least five times since May 23. According to investigators, LaValle managed to remove a grate that allowed him access to a window. Authorities say he sometimes stole cash, and other times damaged the church while looking for more money.
Residents say they see the irony of a homeless man stealing money from a poor box. They say the church is all about helping people, and LaValle should have asked the pastor instead of breaking in.
