Holbrook man accused of DUI after vehicle ends up stuck on LIRR tracks
A Holbrook man was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after his car ended up stuck on the Long Island Rail Road tracks between Central Islip and Brentwood Saturday afternoon, according to MTA police.
MTA police officers responded to a report of a vehicle which drove on the tracks west of the Islip Avenue grade crossing. MTA police say the 2015 Toyota Camry was 50 feet from the crossing where the tires became severely damaged and the vehicle got stuck.
A train that was running on the tracks reversed to avoid the scene and was able to switch tracks to resume its journey after a delay of 30 minutes.
MTA police say 58-year-old Victor H. Cabezas Jr. was taken into custody without incident. He faces one count of driving under the influence.
MTA police say Suffolk County police also assisted in the response.
Service on the LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch was operating on or close to schedule as of Saturday night.
