A religious scholar within Long Island's Sikh community is dead after being killed in a hit-and-run accident Friday.Friends of 77-year-old Gurcharan Singh say he left his Plainview home to go for a walk and run some errands. Police say Singh was crossing Old Country Road around 8 p.m. to stop at his temple to pray when the accident occurred. They say a red or maroon vehicle ran a red light at Lester Place and didn?t stop after hitting Singh. Surinder Singh, Gurcharan's son, says his father was a selfless individual and very forgiving. He's hoping anyone who may have information on his father's death will come forward.Police are asking anyone who may have seen the accident to call 1-800-244-TIPS.
