They came from across Long Island with the same goal in mind: to preserve their Hispanic heritage and culture.
The organization Adelante of Suffolk County held its Puerto Rican/Hispanic Day Parade Sunday in Bay Shore. The event included music, dancing, floats and more.
However, many of the hundreds of participants said the parade serves a greater purpose. "We try to teach [the children] that the culture that we have is very unique," said Jose Larus, of West Islip. "I have been coming to this parade since I was like 6 years old, so this is really a thrill just to be here this long."
Parents made sure to have a little fun too. They dressed up their little ones in clothing that represents their heritage.
