As the school year winds down, more and more high schools are saluting their senior athletes.
In Mount Sinai, there was a parade for the girls lacrosse players, and in Plainview there was a tradition that baseball moms refused to part with.
In Mount Sinai, the game may be gone, but not the gifts and goodbyes on Senior Day 2020.
Catherine Robles is one of Mount Sinai's five seniors. She'll continue her lacrosse career next year at LIU, but Elena Carrera's playing days are over. After missing the last two seasons with ACL injuries, Carrerak was hoping for one more run. But she says all things considered, this was a great way to wrap it up.
Still, there were plenty of long distance hugs and socially distanced team pictures.
Back in Plainview, the Hawks baseball team members said their final farewells on the field. They continued their tradition of having "mom" throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Senior Luke Zuckerman called the moment a nice bit of normalcy.
"It feels great because it shows everyone cares about us and it's great to have the feel of community just thinking about us by doing something like this for us," he says.
