Three Hewlett high school students won the top prize in the prestigious Siemens Science Competition.

Zainab Mahmood, Priyanka Wadgaonkar, and Jiawen Pei researched a tumor-suppressing protein for three years.

The team defeated 2,440 others that applied. Judging for the competition took place at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

The victorious students will receive a $100,000 scholarship that they'll divide among themselves.
