(06/21/06) HEWLETT ? Two organizations have accused a Hewlett real estate agency of blatant racial steering and discrimination.
Long Island Housing Services and the National Fair Housing Alliance say agents at Julia Stevens Realty tried to steer buyers away from neighborhoods with black residents. They also say one realtor made a blatant anti-Semitic comment to an undercover tester while showing houses to that individual. A representative of the National Fair Housing Alliance says a realtor pointed to a picture of Jesus in her own house and told the tester her grandmother displayed the picture to ?show those Jews.?
A Julia Stevens realtor is also accused of making comments about types of people in a neighborhood after driving past a black couple. Representatives of the agency were not available for comment.
