A Hewlett father got a hug worth waiting for Wednesday in Rockville Centre.
Alfredo Hercules was able to hug his family once again for the first time since being diagnosed with COVID-19 on Jan. 2.
The 39-year-old was finally released from Mercy Medical Center after being hospitalized for 72 days.
Hercules said knowing he'd reunite with his family and the health care staff being by his side got him to the finish line.
"I had my family supporting me at home, but it was like a second family developed while I was here and it was almost like if I gave up or if I had a bad day, then they would have a bad day. They went through it with me," Hercules said.
Hercules said he's excited to be back at home with his family and continue his recovery.
