Heroin overdose first responders honored

A dozen first responders were honored Monday for saving the lives of people overdosing on heroin. The Nassau police officers and EMTs administered Narcan to overdose victims, which is an opiate antidote.

A dozen first responders were honored Monday for saving the lives of people overdosing on heroin.
The Nassau police officers and EMTs administered Narcan to overdose victims, which is an opiate antidote.
Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter says almost 190 people have been saved in Nassau by Narcan this year.
Nassau officials say heroin killed over 144 Long Islanders in 2013, which is the highest total in Long Island history.
