A Suffolk County highway patrol officer boarded a moving crane truck on the Long Island Expressway Tuesday and forced the apparent drunken driver to stop the vehicle.

Police say Brian Sinclair, 47, was operating a crane truck eastbound on the Long Island Expressway. They say he hit four cars heading in the same direction at Exit 57 just before 6:30 p.m.

Police say Sinclair then took off and was spotted driving erratically near Exit 60 by Patrol Officer Joseph Goss.

Authorities say Sinclair slowed, but did not stop near Exit 63. Goss then jumped into the passenger seat of the crane and forced Sinclair to pull over.

Officer Goss was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The three drivers in the cars Sinclair struck also suffered minor injuries.

At a news conference Wednesday, Goss told reporters that Sinclair’s only response to the officer boarding his vehicle was, “What’s up?”

Sinclair was held on $5,000 bail after his arraignment in Central Islip.

Christopher Gioe, Brian Sinclair’s attorney, said that his client maintains his innocence.

"We will be investigating these allegations very closely," he said.

This is not the first time Officer Goss has jumped into a moving vehicle on the Long Island Expressway. News 12 reported in 2016 that Goss jumped into a moving vehicle through the passenger side window in an effort to stop a car that was driven by a woman suspected of being drunk and on drugs. There was a 22-month-old baby in the vehicle at the time.
