Parents and students at one Hempstead school protested outside Village Hall Monday in a demand for government transparency.
The group from the Academy Charter School is fighting a proposed apartment complex near the school. Academy officials claim the village is trying to fast track the project.
Protesters say that because the development is between the school's campuses, it would jeopardize student safety.
"Bringing such a complex between the schools will provide added traffic that i think will adversely affect the safety of our children. Our children move back and forth every day," says Academy Charter School Executive Director Wayne Haughton.
News 12 reached out to the village and is still waiting for a response.
