A Hempstead school board member was in court Thursday to face fraud charges.
Dr. Terry Grant is accused of insurance fraud in connection with his dental practice, Gentle Dental, in Hempstead. Grant claims he is being used as a pawn by the District Attorney?s office and as a scapegoat by other board members in the broader investigation into corruption in the district. He also contends he has no information to turn over about possible corruption on the school board and maintains he has done nothing wrong with his practice. His lawyer also claims the DA is using racist tactics.
Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice calls the accusations of racism outrageous. Grant has been released on $1,000 bail. He is due back in court July 20.
