Hempstead police are stepping up social distancing enforcement for Memorial Day weekend.
The village has emerged at the epicenter of Nassau County's COVID-19 crisis.
Officials say while other municipalities are reopening, Hempstead must do its part.
"We've noticed through our police department and just riding around myself that we still have quite a few people who are not abiding by the social distancing regulation," says Hempstead village trustee Waylyn Hobbs Jr. "And we want them to understand that that is not only selfish but also puts our vulnerable citizens at risk."
A new testing is located in the village at the Union Baptist Church on Clinton C. Boone Place.
Residents are advised to call to schedule an appointment at 1-833-422-7369.
