A former Hempstead family has been awarded more than $8 million in a lawsuit involving Nassau and Hempstead police.
The money was awarded for damages stemming from an excessive force case.
Court papers show that Shuay'b Greenaway's mother called police in 2010 for assistance transporting her son, who has bipolar disorder.
Greenaway's attorney says he refused to go with police, but was not violent and that's when officers tased him.
Greenaway's attorney says he suffered puncture wounds and PTSD as a result of the incident.
