There will be tax-cuts for many Long Islanders, but some are questioning the savings.
The Hempstead Town Board reportedly approved its 2019 budget plan Tuesday night, after two public hearings.
As News 12 has reported, Supervisor Laura Gillen presented the Town Council with a $444 million proposal.
Council members then introduced dozens of amendments to that budget.
In the end, the approved budget is $12 million less and includes a more than 3 percent tax cut.
Council members who voted in favor say they are avoiding "over-budgeting" by accounting for early retirements.
Supervisor Gillen says she did not factor in those retirements, because she feels they are not a guarantee.
