Friday's coastal storm brought heavy rains and wind, bringing down a roof in East Farmingdale and a rotting tree in Halesite.
The roof collapse happened at a machine shop on Verdi Street at around 9:30 a.m. Fire officials say it may have collapsed due to the combination of excessive water from the storm and a large air conditioning unit. According to officials, no one was injured in the incident.
The East Farmingdale fire chief credits the business owner for there not being any injuries. He says the owner noticed there was a leak and evacuated the employees.
In Halesite, a neighbor?s rotting tree nearly destroyed the Sims? Jeep Wrangler sitting in the driveway. The tree brought down power and cable lines with it, but missed the Sims? house.
Flooded roadways in Huntington and Freeport proved difficult for drivers to maneuver. The storm is also being blamed for significant beach erosion across the Island.
The storm is due to bring more rain throughout the day Saturday.
