A heat advisory for Long Island has been issued through 8 p.m. on Saturday.

News 12 Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Sam Augeri says it will be humid and hot with late-day storms to start the weekend.

WEATHER TO WATCH: Most of Saturday will be dry but through the afternoon and evening there is the chance for a few strong to severe storms with the primary threat being heavy rain as a cold front passes by.

OVERNIGHT: Partly cloudy, warm, and muggy. Slight chance for a stray shower. Lows near 75 with southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Sunrise: 5:46

SATURDAY: Hot and humid with sun and clouds. Good chance for scattered showers and storms during the late afternoon and evening. Highs near 90 degrees with southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Sunset: 8:11

SATURDAY NIGHT: Storms end with partly cloudy skies. Turning cooler and less humid with lows near 70 degrees. West to northwest winds 5 to 15 mph.
