Five mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus in Suffolk County.
Suffolk health officials say the samples were collected last week in Cold Spring Harbor, Northport, Brentwood and Melville.
They say that the five samples are the first to test positive for West Nile virus in the county this year.
Two dead birds, one in Northport and one in Nesconset, also tested positive for the virus.
No humans have tested positive for the virus in Suffolk this year.
Officials are reminding residents to wear long sleeves in the evening and to avoid water stagnation.
