Some Long Island residents who do not have medical coverage headed to the Middle County Library Saturday to attend a health insurance enrollment fair.
The fair was hosted by Long Island Health and Welfare Council and New York Children's Defense Fund in an attempt to reach out to families and educate them about medical insurance options.
Bonnie Weber, a mother of three, attended the fair to find out if she could get cheaper insurance for her family.
?I have my own insurance, [but] it's a little too much for us to pay,? Weber says, ?so I was just curious what it would be if I dropped that and got something else.?
People who attended the event learned there is a free comprehensive insurance plan available for families making $85,000 or less. The plan includes doctor visits, dental and mental health coverage.
?Every Long Island family that has a child benefits from this program, that's the great thing about this program,? Weber says. ?Even if you make over the income, you are still eligible for the program; you are just going to have to pay more.?
