A FDNY firefighter from Hauppauge was honored Wednesday for his life-saving efforts.
Darren Harsch responded to a fire in April 2021 that spread through multiple stores in Queens.
A section of the roof collapsed trapping a fire lieutenant in the flames. Harsch came in to save the lieutenant.
He was awarded the Chief of Department Peter J. Ganci Medal for his actions.
Harsch was also awarded the New York State Honorary Fire Chief's Association Medal.
