A handicapped Brentwood man who was beaten by six people Sunday is now blasting Suffolk County police for their slow start into the investigation.
Harold Mills says he has scars on his face after being beaten by the armed men. The incident occurred at the deli where Mills works, and surveillance video taped the men moments before the attack.
"Well, it really disturbs me because he's a person that works hard and doesn't bother anybody and he's handicapped, and for this to happen, it's really a shame," says the victim's brother, Robert Mills.
Suffolk police say Mills went to the emergency room Sunday and tried to report the incident Monday, when he was sent back to the hospital to retrieve documents. Suffolk police say they started the investigation Tuesday, but the deli's owner says officers first came to view the videotape on Wednesday morning.
As for the delay, police say they were upfront with the victim.
"They were working on other cases," Sgt. Anthony Levista says. "The officer informed the family that it may not be that afternoon, that it may be this morning before they would get down there to view the video."
