As the qualifying competitions wrapped up Friday at the Hampton Classic, excitement builds for the main events Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday is kids day sponsored by News 12. All kids under 85 pounds can get a complimentary pony ride and all kids can feed petting zoo animals.
Karen Haleiko, of Stepping Out Ponies & Petting Zoo, says some kids may be nervous at first for their pony ride, but end up enjoying it.
"We try to encourage them to be brave and to face their fears and usually by the end of the ride, they're giggling and wanting to go on again," she said.
For the adults, there are plenty of great East End boutiques to check out. Natalie, of Brennan's Bit & Bridle in Bridgehampton, says they have a special reason to celebrate during this year's 49th annual Hampton Classic.
"We have been with the Hampton Classic from the start,” she said.
Brennan's Bit & Bridle is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Mattson says support from customers and the Hampton Classic has helped keep their doors open.
"Support the local businesses and that's how we stay here is the support,” she said. “We really appreciate it."
Sunday is the Longines Hampton Classic 5-Star Grand Prix which starts at 2 p.m. Tickets for the grandstand seating are still available online for the Grand Prix, but get them before they're gone.
