Hundreds gathered at LIU Post for the Ham Radio University Educational Conference.

Organizers say Ham Radio plays an important role in delivering information during natural disasters.

"There are a lot of instances where we're so so reliant on our phones," says Ham Radio volunteer Jaci Fastenan. "And to be able to have the ability to communicate if there were something that went out with power, or cell, or whatever might happen. It's good you can still stay in contact, especially in emergency situations."

This is the 26th year Ham Radio University has held the conference.
