A measure that would add a $15 administrative fee to all Nassau County parking and traffic tickets will soon make its way to the Legislature for a vote.
The fee proposal, which is supposed to cover costs the county incurs to handle each ticket, has already passed two legislative committees.
?What we did is do a time and motion study for everyone who touches the ticket; the clerk, the data entry person, the prosecutor, the judicial hearing officer,? Pat Reilly of the Nassau County Parking and Traffic Violations Bureau says.
Even if the driver is found not guilty and the ticket is dismissed, the fee still has to be paid.
An amendment to the bill states that in some cases, the fee can be dropped at the discretion of the hearing officer. The proposal still needs the signature of County Executive Suozzi.
