There are growing tensions on the East End as Manhattan residents flee the city and flood the streets and stores amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Many city residents who have summer homes on the East End have started temporarily moving there, figuring they are safer there than in the crowded city.

A lot of the locals are not happy because the influx of out-of-towners means less supplies and food in their stores.

"You hear that somebody that went to Citarella's and spent $8,000 in groceries. Meanwhile, you have people out here who've lost their means of income and they don't spend $8,000 in groceries in an entire year," says Gail Simons, of Springs.

On the flip side, businesses are happy. This is a very slow time of year for them, and many are partially shut down because of the crisis.

But as one resident told News 12, it's like class warfare going on.
