Christmas came early Monday for Lindenhurst parents whose son is battling brain tumors as their bills mount up.
The Have a Heart Children's Cancer Society presented the Canales with a $1,000 check and brought gifts for the family's five children. The group was motivated to help after seeing 9-year-old Ever Canales? story last week on News 12 Long Island.
"Sometimes I cry because I don't like to go to the doctor," says the young patient. Canales had an operation in October to remove some of the cancer.
His ongoing medical care and lack of insurance has left his family with $100,000 debt. The family hasn't paid its mortgage since July.
Have a Heart says the $1,000 check and gifts are only the beginning.
