Toy drives this time of year often cater to youngsters in need, but one Long Island group is out to serve an older age group: teens and tweens.
Tidings for Tweens and Teens helps provide gifts for high school-age children and teenagers whose families are facing hardships.
"High school children are often expected to just understand economic hardship, and while they understand, they still deserve a little something," says Laura Prince-Vomvos, founder of the group.
The presents aren't just for those facing financial troubles, though. "I have two families that lost their moms to cancer, another family that lost a mom to an aneurism," Prince-Vomvos says.
Each youth that the group serves will get at least four gifts, including things they can play with and items that are useful.
The office of Meg Smith and Associates runs outreach for Tidings for Tweens and Teens. Organizers there say the gifts are going to families not only in Bay Shore, but all along the South Shore.
