Some Greenport residents are trying to keep a plan to put a helipad at a local marina from getting off the ground.
Last month, Walter Gezari asked Mayor George Hubbard about the possibility of building the heliport at the pier off STIDD Systems, which makes marine equipment for yachts and the U.S. Navy. Gezari also owns STIDD Systems, and he said the helipad would expand his business.
Residents near Bay Avenue in the village seem to be opposed to the proposition, saying they do not want a helipad located right behind a residential area.
Hubbard says that Gezari has not filed paperwork for the project.
A trustees meeting is scheduled for this Thursday, and although the helipad is not currently on the agenda, Mayor Hubbard says the public is still welcome to come and voice their opinions on the matter.
News 12 could not reach Gezari for comment.
