(AP) - A 17-year-old Long Island youth, who was pulledunconscious from the pool at the Huntington YMCA after holding hisbreath underwater for too long, has died.
Suffolk police said Thursday that Marc Dawson was swimming inthe Y's pool on February 18, when he lost consciousness in thewater. He died a week later, on Monday, at Long Island JewishMedical Center.
Police say a post-mortem examination by the Queens MedicalExaminer's Office has concluded that the teen drowned.
Dawson's family had told police that the teen wanted toeventually qualify for the Navy SEALs. The test to become a SEALincludes swimming 500 yards in less than 12 minutes and 30 seconds.
