With the help of a neighbor and two police officers, a family of six made it out alive after a fire nearly engulfed their Great Neck home Thursday.
The Velaoras? were trapped in the house with their four young children after the fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Neighbor Kenny Horowitz heard their cries for help and rushed over to the home. The father threw three of the children out of a window into Horowitz?s arms.
Two Nassau County police officers arrived shortly after and were able to get the parents out using a ladder.
Police believe it was an electrical fire that started in the toy room. They say the fire is not suspicious.
