Governor Spitzer (D-NY) will release his first state budget plan Wednesday and it involves some spending increases for the Bronx and the rest of the state.Spitzer is looking to increase education funding and lower property taxes. His tax cuts are aimed at the middle class and involves adding $6 billion over three years to the existing School Tax Relief Program (STAR). The plan would affect those making $80,000 a year across the state. The governor also plans on increasing the state's aid to schools by $5 billion to $7 billion a year. It will be aimed at needy schools, including some in the Bronx, but there will be strings attached. If schools do not meet certain standards, they may be closed or school officials may be fired.
