Gov. Kathy Hochul signed new legislation Wednesday aimed to increase transparency on the number and location of lead pipes in the state.
The Lead Pipe Right to Know Act calls on the information to be easily accessible to the public.
Using that data, state and federal resources can be secured and used to support local efforts to remove lead pipes.
Officials say lead pipes affect drinking water and that the information can be used to keep families safe from lead poisoning.
