Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned Tuesday that commuters on the Long Island Rail Road should prepare for the "summer of hell."
The governor was referring to Amtrak's plan to reduce the number of LIRR trains this summer running to and from Penn Station during peak travel times. The emergency repairs are set to begin on July 7 and are expected to take six weeks.
Gov. Cuomo presented short-term solutions that included creating a task force to ease the planned service disruption.
"Some possible solutions include busing Long Island commuters, expanding limits on HOV lanes and a high-speed ferry," says the governor.
The Penn Station repairs come in the wake of months of derailments, disabled trains and sewage leaks at one of the countries busiest rail stations.
Gov. Cuomo also wrote a letter to President Donald Trump on Sunday asking for the federal government to provide additional funding to help fix Penn Station's growing problems.
