Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Hicksville Tuesday to announce a $10 million program that he says will revitalize the downtown area.

Gov. Cuomo says the plan will provide public amenities around the Hicksville train station with new apartments and retail space.

"That is the vision that people are looking for. That is the future for Long Island – to attract the new millennials," said the governor.

The project includes $3.6 million for a new entryway for cars at the Hicksville station in an effort to relieve traffic congestion. It also includes $2.5 million for a public plaza for commuters and $1 million for mixed-use buildings that will include 180 new apartments.

Another part of the project will be $2.5 million for a new pedestrian passageway to and from the station lobby and Jerusalem Avenue.

Hicksville won the $10 million grant last year in the state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
