Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Woodbury Wednesday morning to tout the Long Island Rail Road's third track plan, which he says adds up to a $5.6 billion investment in Long Island's future. 

The project involves adding a third track between Floral Park and Hicksville, building a second track between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma, and upgrading various stations and crossings along the way.

Gov. Cuomo says the upgrades will amount to an "81 percent increase of ridership during the evening rush hour" and a "67 percent increase in the morning rush hour."

The governor and critics of the MTA do generally agree that most of this work is long overdue.

Peter Haynes, of the LIRR Commuters Campaign, says he's hopeful but won't celebrate until he sees the work is actually completed. 

"I'm a little skeptical. I hope it happens. I hope it comes through," says Haynes.
