Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a proposal Sunday that would ban all flavored nicotine vaping products.

The governor's plan would ban ordering electronic cigarettes online and selling flavored vaping products.

A Manhasset mother of four teenagers agrees with Cuomo's proposal.

"Vaping is a no-brainer," says Maureen O'Reilly. "It's terrible--there is not one positive thing about it."

Matt Flax, owner of Vaporville in Hicksville, says the governor's plan puts at risk shop owners who are selling legal products to adults.

More than 2,000 New Yorkers became sick from vaping in 2019, according to the state Health Department. In November, officials confirmed the state's second vaping-related death.

Vaping advertising aimed at the youth would also be banned under the proposal.

Dr. John Zaso says the number of teenagers who try vaping is exploding.

"We are seeing more and more cases of children coming in with acute lung injury and in some cases it is not reversible," Zaso says. "And you are causing damage at an early age."

Flax says the problem lies from the black market and illicit THC products.

Other residents told News 12 that the governor's proposal is a step in the right direction but that education and parental supervision is crucial.

The proposal is expected to be part of Cuomo's State of the State Address scheduled for Jan. 8.
