A 20-year-old GOP Committee member is accused of going through great lengths to try and ensure his party a victory on Election Day.
Police say Peter Guardino Jr. stole more than 200 campaign signs that belonged to Democrats. They say they caught him taking one sign outside the Plainview Diner on Old Country Road. A source tells News 12 Long Island that Guardino is a GOP Committee member.
Guardino is the grandson of former Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Colby. Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs says Guardino is also an assistant to current supervisor John Venditto, a Republican. Jacobs believes Guardino acted on orders from higher ups in the Republican Party.
A spokesperson for the Republican Party says that claim is simply untrue and that it is absolutely ridiculous to think Guardino was told to commit a crime.
Guardino is charged with possession of stolen property and was released on an appearance ticket.
