Each of the 18 seats in the Suffolk County Legislature are up for grabs this Election Day.

Republicans say they are hoping to shift the county's balance of power with a big day at the voting booths. The Democrats currently hold 11 seats.

Political analyst Mike Dawidziak says the Republicans could pick up as many as four seats this year, but probably not enough to take a majority.

One hot race is for the seat held by Kevin McCaffrey, a Republican who came to office two years ago. His district includes the hometown of Suffolk Democratic Chairman Rich Schaffer, which analysts say Democrats are fighting hard to win back.

Analysts say the most competitive race may be in Southampton, between a Democratic town councilwoman and an openly gay Republican, both vying for an open seat on the County Legislature.

Amos Goodman, who has a background in business and finance, is the first openly gay Republican running for a seat in the Suffolk County Legislature. He's challenging Democrat Bridget Fleming.
