Glen Cove High School held a Black History Month celebration for students, teachers and administrators.
The school started planning back in October to bring together the talents from the music, dance and fine arts departments to celebrate this year's theme - African Americans and the Arts.
Student Heather Alvarado helped organize the festivities. She says "I think it's extremely important to celebrate Black History Month. I think everyone should know what it is and know how important it is," explains Alvarado.
Principal Allen Hudson III was the event's keynote speaker.
"As I mentioned in my speech, it's been a long time. I'm the first African American principal at this high school. I stand on the shoulders of giants before me, it's a credit to this community," says Hudson.
The school plans to make the festivities an annual event for its school community.
