The Glen Cove City Council has approved a proposal banning non-resident parking at two of Glen Cove's train station lots.

Mayor Reginald Spinello says the new restrictions mean that only Glen Cove residents can park in the city-owned north lots at Glen Cove train station and the Glen Street station. The other spaces in the south lots would be open to everyone.

Spinello says the problem is exacerbated when bad weather forces more people to take the train rather than hop in their cars.

"My priority is to take care of Glen Cove residents first," Spinello says.

The mayor says enforcement will be through license plate checks by the city police force. The fine for non-city residents caught parking in the restricted spaces would be $250.
