Police in East Setauket arrested a piano teacher Thursday who allegedly touched at least one young student inappropriately.
Seventy-four-year-old Nicholas Panos, of Port Jefferson, is accused of repeatedly making improper contact with an 11-year-old girl. Police say the girl's father alerted them about the alleged crime. The suspected incidents occurred in the basement of the Three Village Music Shop, where Panos has rented space for 20 years. The mother of another one of Panos' students expressed shock at the allegations and says they must be a huge mistake.
Panos is charged with second-degree sexual abuse and was released on bail. Investigators ask anyone who might have been victimized by Panos to come forward and contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
