Police say vandals painted a 24 by 24-foot swastika in the middle of a Centereach street Thursday.
Area residents woke to the shocking display, which police say was probably painted between midnight and 3 a.m. Investigators believe it took more than one person to complete the swastika.
None of the neighborhood?s inhabitants are Jewish but police say they plan to pursue the vandalism as a hate crime.
