Long Island volunteers for the Democrats and Republicans wrapped up their get out the vote efforts Tuesday as residents headed to the polls.
Nassau County Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs says his volunteers were out in droves. More than 350 volunteers canvassed the 6th state Senate District alone, Jacobs says. The county was also prepared with about 80 lawyers assigned inside polling centers to make sure nothing went wrong.
Republican volunteers were less visible. Nassau GOP officials say their volunteers were out in force, but News 12 Long Island? s cameras kept missing them.
For those who plan to vote after work, election officials advise leaving extra time because of an expected rush.
