Officials say a gas leak sparked a brief evacuation near two schools in Bay Shore this morning.
According to police, a Town of Islip garbage truck hit a branch on King Street and Udall Road around 7 a.m. The location is a few blocks from Brentwood West Middle School and Southwest Elementary School.
Police say when the truck hit the branch, natural gas began leaking from the truck.
Suffolk emergency services responded along with Hazmat and firefighters.
The area is now safe.
