The price for a gallon of regular gas at one Northport gas station is halted at $3.99, much to the delight of customers.
The gas pumps at the Getty station on Route 25A are so old that they?re not calibrated to go above $3.99. Station owner Victor Beeman says he?s not losing any money, even as gas price averages on Long Island soar above $4.00, because he gets the same commission from the oil company regardless.
?Getty really loses out because they're supposed to be selling fuel for $4.10 to $4.15 a gallon and they're losing that money,? Beeman says. ?That's money out of their pocket.?
Cars have been lining up down the block for the deal as surrounding gas stations charge $4.23 for a gallon of regular.
Beeman says there's no word on when the pumps will be upgraded, so until then, it?s $3.99 for regular no matter what.
